On Friday, October 2nd, we were informed that OYSA will NOT have the field space to provide leagues across all of the Academy age groups this fall. OYSA relies on each club to provide a certain amount of home fields for games. Many clubs (including FSC) currently cannot supply enough fields to successfully and safely hold a Fall season for all age groups.
Because of this, OYSA has decided to cancel the Fall league for the 2007 through 2013 birth year age groups.
OYSA has decided to prioritize the oldest age groups (birth year 2006 and older) for the fall. For these older age groups (birth year 2006 and older) OYSA will hold a Fall league slated to start on October 17th. This decision by OYSA was at least partially based on:
Players in these older age groups will most likely be playing High School Soccer in the Spring, thus making a Spring OYSA Soccer league for these older players highly unlikely.
The younger age groups (2013 through 2007 birth years) do not have a Spring Soccer conflict and can play a full OYSA Soccer league in the Spring.
OYSA plans to hold a Spring league for Jr Academy (2013-2011 birth years) and Academy (2010-2007 birth years) in 2021. Details to follow when they are available.
Foothills Soccer Club is still working through our options for the Fall. We ask that you give us some time, patience, and grace as we navigate the possibilities and formulate a plan.
We believe having the players on the field, safely practicing the game has a positive impact to their overall health and well-being. As such, until we finalize a Fall Academy/Jr. Academy plan, we will continue to practice as normal under our RTP, Phase 3 protocols.
More to come as we navigate this change. 2020 is a challenge, but we are up to the task.
