In considering how best to service the players of the club from a technical soccer standpoint, the Club has decided to invest in 2 new positions - Technical Directors - that will service both our Recreational program as well as our Academy program. These two hires are instead of hiring a single Director of Coaching.
The Role of Technical Director is focused accelerating player growth and development from a technical soccer point of view. As such, they will be a resource for coaches to consult with regarding technical skill development and they will actively partner with the coaches to implement the Foothills style of play at all levels.
The club is excited to announce the hiring of Alan Croft as our Technical Director - Academy.
Alan has been involved in soccer since he was 5 years old as a player and that love of soccer has continued into his adult life. Alan started his coaching career helping at camps for his local club shortly after graduating High School. He then joined the Vancouver Timbers (now known as the Washington Timbers) as an assistant coach. In 2013, Alan was named the Head Coach of the Hudson Bay JV Girls program. In 2016, Alan joined ADF as the Head Coach of the 2007 and 2006 boy’s programs and lead both to undefeated seasons. Alan left ADF to join Rose City Futsal in 2017 where he was the Head Coach of multiple select teams, became Program Director of the westside facility, and helped grow the sport of Futsal in our region.
In his own words, Alan’s goal for his new role is to "share his knowledge of the game with fellow coaches, players and their families while establishing and maintaining the love/passion for the game that has been instilled in him since he was a young boy"
The club is equally excited to announce the hiring of Roo Russell as our Technical Director – Recreational/Jr. Academy.
Roo is originally from Silverdale, Washington and played club soccer for the FC Royals. Roo attended Portland State University where she played on the Women’s Soccer team garnering scholar athlete awards 4 years in a row (06, 07, 08, and 09). She graduated from PSU in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Science. From PSU, Roo continued her academic journey at the University of the Rockies where she earned her Masters in Sports Psychology in 2017.
Roo’s coaching career spans nearly a decade, starting out coaching the Little Kickers program at SoccerPlex from 2010 to 2012. From there she moved just south of Portland to Willamette United where she coached at multiple levels from U6 to U14 over a 5 period. She now joins Foothills to focus on our Recreational and Jr. Academy programs and we could not be more excited to have her on the staff.
So welcome to the Foothills Family Alan and Roo! We look forward to seeing you on the pitch, helping the club create a lifelong love of soccer in the youth of our community.
