Eligible players
All boys and girls in kindergarten through 8th grade for Fall 2007 are eligible to play. Our club serves kids in the attendance areas of Hayhurst, Maplewood and Mary Rieke elementary schools and Robert Gray Middle School. Private schools within our club area include St. John Fisher, the French American School, Portland Jewish Academy, West Hills Montessori and West Hills Christian. A player does not have to live within this area to play in our club.
The Season
1st - 8th grade players
Practices tend to begin sometime in the 2-3 weeks before school resumes. (Please note that this varies for every team due to coach availability, summer vacations, etc.) Practices are generally held twice a week for an hour to an hour and a half, depending on the age of the team. Your coach will call or e-mail you to let you know when your team practices will start, and when and where they will be held.
Games will start September 8th for all teams, and will be held on Saturdays (with the possibility of a few Sundays). All games will be played in Portland. Games will end either in late October or mid-November, depending on the age of the team.
Kindergarten
Practices for kindergarten teams will begin on Wednesday, September 12th. There will be one practice a week every Wednesday from 5:00 - 6:00 pm at Smith Elementary School (8935 SW 52nd Ave.). Games will be on Fridays from 5:00 - 6:00 pm, also at Smith Elementary School, starting on September 14th. The kindergarten season will wrap up at the end of October.
Uniforms & equipment
Uniform requirement
All players are required to wear a Foothills Soccer Club uniform when representing the Club in league and tournament play. The costs of a jersey, short and socks is $25. Returning players do not need to purchase another uniform set if their previous year's uniform is still wearable.
Player equipment
All players must also meet the following equipment requirements for every game:
- Shin guards
- Molded rubber soccer shoes
- Water bottle for practices and games
- Soccer ball (size 3 for U6-U7; size 4 for U8-U12; size 5 for U13-U14)
- No jewelry of any kind is allowed on the playing field. "Medic Alert" bracelets worn around the ankle or wrist, taped to the skin, are the only exceptions. Plan ear piercing well in advance of the season, or postpone until later.
Policies
Rules & regulations
Our club plays according to the rules and regulations of the Portland Youth Soccer Association (PYSA); you can review this information at the PYSA Web site.
Playing time
Foothills Soccer Club policy requires that all players are allowed to play to their potential. Playing time should be allocated evenly unless extenuating circumstances require otherwise. Coaches are instructed to be fair and to balance playing time with the ability of each player.
Player and parent conduct
Players are expected to honor their commitment to their team by attending practices and games. The coach must be informed of any practices and games that will be missed.
Players, parents, coaches and referees are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship and respect for others. Most referees for lower age groups are teenagers; some are parent volunteers. While the nature of the game is physical, dangerous play is prohibited. Parents are asked to allow the children to enjoy the game.
Parents and players who do not obey guidelines will be prohibited from participating by the referee or coach. Disciplinary action can take the form of a temporary suspension or (if necessary) expulsion from the program.
Team Formation
Teams will be formed starting June 15th. The team requests of players who register prior to June 15th will be given priority over those registering later. Players who register after June 15th will still be placed on teams they request, unless
that team is full and there are other teams that need players. In this case, players will be placed on these teams until they reach the minimum team size for their age group.
Our complete team formation policy can be found

Volunteering
We are always in need of volunteers! The areas where we primarily need help are: club volunteers to help run the club; coaches (both head coaches and assistant coaches); and team parents to help our coaches keep each team organized. Please indicate on your registration form how you can help out, or
email the club registrar at
registrar@foothillssoccer.org to request more information. |
